Nowadays, whenever i see DeviantArt art pieces, it's almost always related to furries, adult content or some kind of fetish. The access offered by Insta, Twitter, and Reddit far outpaces DA. In general, i think that DeviantArt lost a lot of its charm because most profesionnal artist flew to other platform and mostly the amateurs and teenagers remained, but that's just my opinion.Īgree across the board, especially this part:Īnd that means you're way more likely to run into collectors on a site that's for everyone, not just artists. I am not sure, but i heard that all content you post belong to them and it scared many more professionnal artists. I think that reputation of getting more "Deviant", which is ironic considering the name, is a big reason for its declineĪlso, i am not an expert on this and i may be wrong, but i think i heard that DeviantArt has a defavorable content policy regarding copyright compared to most platform. It was a good place to see all kind of art, especially fanart. I never posted on DeviantArt, but i use to browse content there in the late 2000s. Also, becoming big on DeviantArt is not as impactful as being big on Instagram for instance. Most people who know about DeviantArt are artist themselves. I feel like DeviantArt is also a little more niche and not as mainstream. When i wanted to start posting my art on social medias, i looked at many platforms, including DeviantArt, but i ended up with Instagram.
Instagram is a big competitor because of its higher reach and ArtStation became the place for more professional art, like a LinkedIn for artist.
Now, you have other social media apps to do so.
The main issue is that at the time, it was the main platform to post art. I don't think it's dead or dying, but at least it's stagnant or declining.
